Panasonic Lumix G9 Review

The Panasonic G9 is a Travel & Landscape Photography dream camera! A Micro Four-Thirds system from Panasonic is quite possibly the most significant hidden gem in the camera world! Therefore, after reading multiple reviews, I wanted to test the G9 out for my needs, landscape photography and travel videography!

The Lumix G9, aimed at professional still photographers while boasting powerful video features. Finally, I will be covering the positives, negatives, and the niche market of consumers for this camera.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Landscape Photography

The G9 is the flagship stills-orientated camera, home to a 20.3-megapixel sensor. Further, the latest-gen Venus processor and lack of an optical low-pass filter, the Lumix G9, deliver image quality with outstanding detail.

Travel Photography with the G9 is made exceptionally easy. Due to the ergonomics of the camera, being comfortable in hand and balanced well with any lens. The 6.5 stops of stabilization, insane viewfinder (especially for users who wear glasses) and the small, lightweight lens + body setup make this camera almost perfect for photography.

Finally, landscape photography's a powerful feature and was an attraction for me from the Lumix G9. As a result, the MFT's system and the 80MP high-res mode make this a fantastic camera for landscape and travel photographers.

I was extremely impressed with the Panasonic paired with the Leica lens, producing superb image quality and colour rendition. Additionally, other stand out key features of the flippy screen, 4K & 6K photo modes, custom modes and night mode make this a stellar camera.

Panasonic G9 Vlogging Camera

Firstly, I know I'm asking this camera to do a lot for me, secondary stills camera, a professional video camera and now a vlogging camera! Secondly, I must say I already have a camera that does ALL this for me, the Fujifilm X-H1. Therefore, why would I be looking at a different system?

Lastly, the critical features of AF, flippy screen, custom modes, 180FPS and 4K @ 60FPS is an upgrade for my YouTube requirements. In Conclusion, this camera gets another huge tick being super easy to function and use as a solo creator.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Video

If I told you that the Panasonic G9 had near-perfect video features, you'd probably order one straight away? Well, it does, almost. Firstly, the Panasonic G9 has superb video features the six custom modes, 6.5 in-body stabilization (plus lenses), 4K @ 60FPS, 1080P @180FPS and the recent updates 10-bit recording.

Although this sounds amazing, especially for my needs in travel and YouTube videography. Therefore, why don't I own 2 of the Panasonic G9 cameras?

Finally, this camera is feature-packed in photography and videographer there is no doubting that. But like any camera, they all have their downfalls, one I could live with, but one I couldn't.

Firstly, the depth of field, due to the MFT system even at F1.7 the depth of field compared to rival sensors you're unable to achieve that too shallow field of video, perfect for landscape photography but a drawback in the video aspect.

Secondly, the noise introduced at ISO 3200 in the video is almost unusable. As a result, filming as I often do before or after sunrise for YouTube and professional shoots, this drawback was the principal and possibly only reason I couldn't keep this camera. Conclusion

A camera system that I initially had no idea about, but after two weeks of using it, I've fallen in love. Firstly, as a photographers camera, I would recommend this to 75% of my youtube audience. Secondly, it has a place for the travelling videographer out there that wants a small and lightweight setup. Lastly, the only thing holding me back from using this camera as my backup camera is the low-light video capability.

In Conclusion, if low light video is not an essential requirement from your cameras, I can still recommend this camera in 2020.
